OK, I understand. You do not mean the language but the character set or font.
Simply copy the needed font to /usr/share/fonts/truetype. Maybe you must also copy the font config file to /etc/fonts/conf.d

You're right, i checked it in Ubuntu.
It's called text entry settings, there is a switch in the menu bar to change input source.
I don't know how to do that in MLD.

In Ubuntu you can select a combination of two keys (for ex., Ctrl + Space bar)

In MLD you must change the keymap in the setup and then I think you must restart xorg or the whole system. I never have try to change the keyboard setting on MLD on the fly. But I think possible there are keycodes you can enter, like the Windows ALT-xxxx codes. I never have try that, since I never need it.
