[MLD 5.4 testing] dvb-mb vs dvb-dddvb
« on: December 17, 2019, 22:34:20 »
Hi,

I'm testing DD Cine 5.5 which works fine using dvb-mb however i wanted to test how it'll perform using dvb-dddvb.
Therefore, i build dvb-dddvb for kernel 5.3.11 + rc-core but the card isn't recognized.
Is dvb-dddvb package compatible with DD Cine 5.5?
Is there any advantages using dvb-dddvb over dvb-mb?

P.S. i already copied  ngene_18.fw to  /lib/firmware

Regards.

The dddvb driver is the one from digital devices.

Maybe you do not use the latest version, or it's not compatible to the latest kernel.

I have kernel 5.3.11, it was working fine using dvb-mb
I build dvb-dddvb for kernel 5.3.11 in MLD docker container, uninstalled dvb-mb then installed it but the card isn't recogized anymore.
Do you have dvb-dddvb + rc-core packages for kernel 5.3.11 or they were deleted?

I upgraded to kernel 5.3.14 but it become worse.

MLD> lsdvb

lsdvb: Simple utility to list PCI/PCIe DVB devices
      Version: 0.0.4
      Copyright (C) Manu Abraham
ERROR: Opening /sys/class/dvb directory

Edit: i will restore an older snapshot with dvb-mb package
I think dvd-dddvb is not compatible with DD Cine 5.5
I noticed that DigitalDevices are offering dvb-dddvb_0.9.36 while MLD has 0.9.37
Could that be a problem?

Hello gr4vity,

i also use on my system the local Satinterface from DD Cine 5.x (glaube 5.4). That works fine with the DVB Modules from the Kernel, so i don't need to install dvb-dddvb or dvb-mb Package. Only the Package "dvb" are needed, then you can also install -without Problems- the Package "rc-core".

I didn't understand why you tested different version of DVB-Packages, may please explain the reason.

My results from the Kernel are: (Auszug)
Code: [Select]
dmesg | grep ngene

[MLD 5.4 testing] dvb-mb vs dvb-dddvb
« Reply #7 on: December 18, 2019, 22:44:06 »
Hi P3f,

Thanks for your feedback.
Regarding your question, i have Skystar eXpress card which doesn't work with dvb package.
Therefore i asked Claus to build dvb-mb.
Now Skystar eXpress works fine, i also build vtuner package for dvb-mb.
DD cine S2 5.5 works fine under dvb-mb as well.
But, i noticed that some transponder doesn't lock although  it works fine with Skystar eXpress.
So, i though that DD 5.5 might perform better using DigitalDevices driver but unfortunately it's not recognized using dvb-dddvb package.

Code: [Select]
MLD> lsdvb

lsdvb: Simple utility to list PCI/PCIe DVB devices
Version: 0.0.4
Copyright (C) Manu Abraham

ngene (18:720 18:0) on PCI Domain:0 Bus:1 Device:0 Function:0
DEVICE:0 ADAPTER:0 FRONTEND:0 (STV090x Multistandard)
FE_QPSK Fmin=950000MHz Fmax=2150000MHz
DEVICE:0 ADAPTER:1 FRONTEND:0 (STV090x Multistandard)
FE_QPSK Fmin=950000MHz Fmax=2150000MHz

I also want to know if DD 5.5 adapter name will be STV090x Multistandard or something else using DigitalDevices driver.

So, there is no way to build DigitalDevices driver that works for MLD?

Regards.
