Kernel 3.19 upgrade
« on: February 21, 2016, 19:14:33 »
Hallo

I have just made a new installation on a Zotac ZBox - the CI323. But I have no picture.
It seems the chips needs at least a 3.19 kernel to provide the graphics

The MLD-5 kernel is 3.16. Is there any way of upgrading this to 3.19

Or is there any other possible work arounds.

Some help here would be really much appreciated
Thanks

Hi,

Pit do some tests with a 4.3 kernel on his devel server. Please ask him to get a testing image of this, and tell him the type of the graphik card of your system.

Good Morning Piano,

i have actual the new stable linux kernel 4.4.1 at my own development enviroment. If you qnt to test the image it is possible with the follow netinstall ISO-image.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mq7kfgotunx0pzx/MLD-5_netinstall_2016.02.04-172.6%2B1383%2Bkernel4_amd64.iso?dl=0

After you have install or start with the livemodus on your choice, please make an Debug-Log directly from the problems page.

Let me know, if you must get any new kernelswitches for comipiling within.

Regards,
Pit

Thanks Pit, that worked. I now have sound and image.
But there's just one problem: the screen is overlaid with flickering green bars - like interlace lines.

On the TV screen the OSD displays correctly (on top of the flickering lines); but using the remote control option, on the webpage, the OSD displays as a coloured overlay of green bars, nothing displayed.

I am sure it must be one of the options of softhddevice but I don't know which.
Any suggestions, please.

Peter

Hi Pit

Here's the key for the Debug-Log:  LPICCe

I have managed to lose the green lines by stoping hw decoding in the softhddevice plugin.
But its not satisfactory as it stresses the processor on HD material as there are sync issues and staggering.
It may have something to do with not using transfer mode correctly.
Maybe the logs will show something.

Thanks for looking
Peter

Hello Peter,

sorry for the delay and thank for the Debug-Log, these are helpful  :)

At the moment i compile the new stable kernel 4.4.3 because there are news for your i915-Depencies. It's possible for you to take an new test with your hardware?

Please use the new netinstall-Image from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/21atoeivz29lj8k/MLD-5_netinstall_2016.02.23-172.6%2B1405%2Bkernel4_amd64.iso?dl=0

And can you tell me, on which way you connect your hardware with the tv? HDMI, DVI-D, or (embedded) Displayport?
At your Debug-Log there are an different value for the connect to the tv?

Regards,
Pit

P.S: Please select at our Webinterface System/Config/Xorg/Ausgabe your correct TV (SD/HD/Full HD). There are an new function for the plugin-softhddevice-dev and choise the "Hauptbildschirm" to your HDMI-Output.

Hey Pit

Here's the log file link: BKSULg
I succeeded in making an installation with the new iso.
I use an HDMI cable to link up to the TV. I put this into the Xorg configuration but I couldn't find a new function for the plugin-softhddevice-dev. Where do I go to.

I still have the flashing green lines - like interlace bars. They appear to double in size on SD channels, and somehow flash in time to the sound. The are flashes are not regular but seem to react to louder sounds.
If I de-activate hardware decoding in the softhddevice arguments, it stops he flashing, but there are syncing errors, particularly on HD channels.
Have you any idea what I need to do to correct this.
Thanks
Peter

Hello Peter,

please set the point at the Webif "System / Setup / Xorg / Resolution = Full HD" like my screenshot. Then that set the parameter for the correct resolution at your screen. At your Debug-Log from yesterday there aren't set.

After them, please take an new Debug-Log for me.

Regards,

Pit

edit:// this is the Failure on the configuration, found in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

intel(0): switch to mode 1920x1080@59.9 on HDMI2 using pipe 2, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none
[    26.695] (II) intel(0): Setting screen physical size to 508 x 285

edit2:// i've new compilied the softhddevice-dev for you. Please make an update of them or install new!!
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt-get install vdr-plugin-softhddevice-dev --reinstall

Hi Pit
Here's the new Debug-Log:  vL0TTA

I set the Webif "System / Setup / Xorg / Resolution = Full HD", and applied the update.
The flashing green lines have now gone and the sync is keeping up with the picture on the HD channels, so it must be using hardware decoding. All apears good.
Was there a function on the softhddevice plugin that needs to  be set to HDMI-output.
Thanks
Peter
